The First U.S. Experience With Single-Port Robotic Thyroidectomy
By Dr Eyas Alkhalili
Minimally invasive thyroid surgery continues to evolve—and the U.S. is now leading the next chapter. In this poster presented at the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology 2025 Annual Meeting, Dr. Eyas Alkhalili shared results from the first American series of robotic single-port thyroid surgeries performed through a hidden underarm incision.
Twelve patients underwent partial thyroid removal for benign nodules or early thyroid cancer. All were outpatient cases. There were no nerve injuries, no bleeding, and no permanent complications. Every patient had an invisible cosmetic outcome and rapid return to normal activity.
Beyond appearance, this technique offers a more precise view of the thyroid and lymph nodes while sparing critical structures like the vocal cords and parathyroid glands. Compared to older robotic systems requiring multiple incisions, the new SP platform reduces surgical trauma and recovery time.
For patients, it means a new standard in scarless thyroid surgery—safe, effective, and cosmetically unmatched.
