Changing Lives Beyond the Operating Room
From free screenings to awareness campaigns, our community programs bring research and care directly to the people who need it most.
Bringing Early Detection to the Community
Thyroid cancer often grows silently, without obvious symptoms. Through our free community screening program, led by Dr. Rashmi Roy, thousands of people have received quick, painless thyroid ultrasounds. These screenings take only a few minutes, but the impact lasts a lifetime. By detecting nodules and cancers earlier, we give patients the chance for faster treatment and better outcomes.
At health fairs, wellness events, and local outreach programs, our team brings life-saving technology directly to the community. Women—who are three times more likely than men to develop thyroid cancer—make up the majority of those screened. Each event is not only about detection, but also about education and empowering people to “check their neck” and take control of their health.
Raising Awareness.
Saving
Lives.
Awareness is more than information—it’s the first step toward diagnosis, treatment, and better outcomes.
That’s why we lead and support multiple annual initiatives focused on thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disease.
Conn’s Syndrome Awareness Day – In partnership with Any Lab Test Now, we launched the nation’s first awareness day for this underdiagnosed form of primary aldosteronism. Patients now have direct access to affordable testing panels that can identify this cause of high blood pressure.
Hyperparathyroidism Awareness Day – Also with Any Lab Test Now, this campaign is shining a light on the overlooked symptoms of hyperparathyroidism—bone pain, kidney stones, and fatigue—and helping patients ask the right questions.
The Neck Check Challenge – A hands-on campaign teaching people how to examine their own necks for thyroid nodules. This simple, two-minute check has the power to detect cancers early.
Hashimoto’s Awareness Day – Raising visibility for the millions affected by autoimmune thyroid disease and giving patients a platform to share their stories.
Pheochromocytoma Awareness Day (launching soon) – Highlighting this rare adrenal tumor that can cause life-threatening blood pressure spikes, while driving patients to expert centers.
Thyroid Nodule Awareness Day (launching soon) – Focused on the importance of monitoring and treating thyroid nodules, the most common endocrine tumor.
Together, these campaigns reach thousands of patients and families each year. They are amplified by local and national media—such as live thyroid ultrasound demonstrations on WFLA Tampa—and by powerful partnerships that extend our reach across the country.
From Discovery to Everyday Impact
What we learn in the lab and operating room is translated into real-world benefits for patients and communities.
Every breakthrough in research fuels better care. Genetic discoveries help us identify tumors earlier. Surgical innovations allow patients to heal faster with fewer complications. Awareness programs and free screenings bring these advances directly to the community, catching disease before it becomes life-threatening.
Because our surgeons perform more endocrine operations than any other team in the world, we’re able to turn patient experiences into new knowledge—and then share that knowledge globally. It’s a continuous cycle: research drives care, care drives discovery, and patients everywhere benefit.
